Schisandra chinensis, also known as Chinese Magnolia Vine or Five-flavor Berry, originally comes from northeastern China, where it has been used since ancient times in Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Schisandra berries contain special secondary plant substances, lignans, which belong to the group of phytoestrogens. 30 different compounds with a common chemical core structure occur in the berry vine and make up about 19% of its total mass.

Schisandra contains a 10-fold concentrated extract from the red berries of the climbing plant Schisandra chinensis. One capsule with 500 mg Schisandra extract corresponds to 5,000 mg of simple fruit powder. Taking one capsule of Schisandra chinensis is therefore equivalent to consuming 5 g of dried berries.
