Herkunft, Herstellung, Qualität
After the harvest, the fruits are transported directly to the production facility via short routes and processed further on the same day. This is crucial for the quality of our powder, because the vitamin C in acerola cherries degrades rapidly after picking due to enzymatic and oxidative processes. In contrast, the fast transport ensures that as much of it as possible is preserved.
Once at the production facility, the harvested acerola cherries are washed with cold water and immediately subjected to strict laboratory testing. Only if they successfully pass this test are they processed further into acerola powder. For this purpose, a thick liquid mass is first produced from the fruits, which is then spray-dried with the help of maltodextrin from non-GMO corn to form a powder. By maintaining low temperatures of a maximum of 40 °C, all valuable ingredients are preserved. The use of maltodextrin is necessary because otherwise the acerola powder would be extremely sensitive to oxygen and would quickly clump and spoil. However, with less than 30%, our partner company uses only the amount of maltodextrin that is absolutely necessary to obtain a stable powder.
As part of quality assurance, a final laboratory analysis of the end product is conducted to check for microbiological contamination and harmful substances.
