Natural algae-based astaxanthin exists as a fatty acid ester and is provided in an oily matrix. This oil-bound form allows for particularly good absorption in the body. For our vegan capsules, we use no palm oil, but instead high-quality vegetable oil (MCT coconut oil) to maximize bioavailability.
Astaxanthin – An Algae Under Stress Test
Astaxanthin belongs to the group of secondary plant substances and, as a pigment, is part of the carotenoid group. It is naturally produced by the microalga Haematococcus pluvialis. This alga releases astaxanthin in stressful situations, such as prolonged droughts, severe cold, or food scarcity. To ensure its survival, it reduces its metabolic activity to a minimum. Once environmental conditions improve, the small green alga awakens from its dormant state and resumes its normal metabolic functions. Astaxanthin therefore gives it enormous resilience against extreme environmental influences.
Our astaxanthin contains, in addition to the main active ingredient, other natural carotenoids. In contrast to synthetic variants, this provides the full spectrum of the algae. Since astaxanthin is present in oil, it is naturally in an esterified form with fatty acids and is particularly well absorbed.
